

Follow this, leaving the John Muir Trail, which continues to the right. After a little bit of hiking, you'll pass a trailhead for Clouds Rest Trail on your left. Clouds Rest, a massive granite formation just northeast of Half Dome in Yosemite Valley, is one of the defining hikes in Yosemite National Park (YNP). Take the right fork which follows the John Muir Trail towards Clouds Rest. The next important intersection is the fork between the Half Dome and the Clouds Rest Trail. Soak it all in and then backtrack to the trailhead. Even better: you’ll likely be looking down on Half Dome (8,836 ft.). 360-degree views stretch for hundreds of miles. At the end of Little Yosemite Valley, turn left as the trail start climbing up the hillside. All the glacier-carved wonder of Little Yosemite Valley and the surrounding peaks unfolds at the top of Clouds Rest (9,926 ft.). The peak can be seen from Yosemite Valley, and at 9,930 ft. At the top of Nevada Falls, there is a restroom. If you pick the Mist Trail (open only in summer), you pass very close to Vernal Falls and get a great up close view of Nevada Falls as well.
